Rapidly developing technology is most beneficial to modern medicine. Dentistry has also taken its share from this in recent years. In this article, we wanted to touch on the treatment methods used in modern dentistry.
Missing teeth cause both health and cosmetic problems. The developing technology has also benefited dentistry. Implant dental treatment has been developed as an alternative to the traditionally used bridge and prosthesis. So what is an implant, how is implant treatment done and to whom?
How is implant treatment done?
Implant treatment is done by giving the patient a light sedation. Detailed examination and x-ray are required before the procedure. Measurements of the jaw bones and remaining teeth are taken. There are two options for placing dental implants. In the one-step procedure, a temporary cap is attached after the implant is placed. In the two-stage process, after the dental implant is placed, it is covered with the gum and left to heal. Prosthetic heads are then attached. In both cases, a temporary bridge is placed and a healing period of 3 months for the lower jaw and six months for the upper jaw is expected. Sometimes newly made teeth can be placed on dental implants immediately. With a dental implant, the patient can safely laugh and eat.
Zirconium implants are new generation implants made to increase the resistance of implants made of titanium. It is used to increase endurance, especially in narrow jawbones. It is no different from titanium except for durability.
Zirconium is also used in dental veneers. Zirconium is as white as natural teeth and reflects light. For this reason, it is useful in terms of aesthetics as well as durability. It does not corrode and does not leave a metal taste in the mouth. Color change does not occur over time. There is no harm to the body.
Braces application (Orthodontics)
The braces consist of the bracket placed on the teeth that have irregularities and distortions due to various reasons, and the wire holding them. Braces are applied to those with intermittent teeth, crooked teeth, bite disorders, broken teeth and overlapping teeth. There is no specific age for braces treatment. Braces treatment takes about 18-24 months. In severe jaw disorders, this treatment may take up to three years. Patients receiving braces can eat and drink anything except very sticky foods. However, they need to be very careful about cleanliness.
Tooth extraction and treatment
The retraction of the gingiva to the bottom of the enamel layer and the exposure of the tooth root are considered as gingival recession. It can be genetic, as well as calculus, bad coatings, hard and excessive brushing of the teeth. Symptoms of gum recession are bad breath, bleeding when brushing teeth, swelling and redness of the gums. Gum recession can also lead to tooth loss.
Various filling techniques are used in the treatment of gingival recession. The tooth can be completely covered. In advanced cases, surgical method is used. In the surgical method, the healthy tissue in the surrounding area is shifted to the damaged area and the retracted area is covered, or a graft taken from the palate is surgically added to the area of retraction.
